The Writers Workshop provides support for writers who are engaged in all types of writing and at any point in the writing process. We work with academic, professional, and multimodal genres of writing and can assist you with determining how to get started on your writing, to organize your ideas and sources effectively, and anything in between—in fact, you do not even need to have anything written in order to visit the Writers Workshop! We can work with you in whatever format works best, whether on paper or digitally. Please bring any relevant materials to your appointment, including prompts, assignment directions, previous comments, or working drafts.
We offer a variety of services where writers can meet with one of our trained Writers Workshop consultants to work one-to-one or in a small group on a collaborative project. You can find more information about each type of consultation on its page and on our FAQ page.
Our in-person and video call appointments are interactive. At the start of an appointment, your consultant will ask about your writing, goals for the session, support you need to continue writing, and resources you hope to collect. The Writers Workshop can work with you on a variety of writing skills, including but not limited to: brainstorming, planning, thesis statements, organization and flow, incorporating evidence, citation, grammar rules, and style. We adapt to your needs and preferences and can help you discover the methods of writing that work best for you!
Our written feedback appointments are asynchronous. Prior to your appointment, you’ll upload your file(s) and complete the appointment form questionnaire in as much detail as possible.
Our drop-in consultations are not by appointment, but rather first-come, first-served during our dedicated drop-in hours at the Main Library and LAS Hub.
We encourage you to visit the Writers Workshop early and often in your writing process!
