Welcome to the Writers Workshop!

Welcome to the Writers Workshop!

Thanks to The Daily Illini for spotlighting us in “UI’s Tutoring Resources Foster Student Success“!

Two of our consultants were featured in the article, Lydia Oesterling (junior, Speech and Hearing Science and Spanish) and Ekangika Mahanti (junior, Neuroscience and Political Science). As Ekangika says, “Many people think [the Writers Workshop] is just for English majors, but we have consultants from many different fields that see all types of writing. People should just come in with whatever they have, whatever stage they’re at.” Stop by for assistance with any of your end-of-semester writing, whether you’re working on a final paper, ICT application essay, or job application materials.

How can we help you today?

Reserve your appointment today! The Writers Workshop will begin finals hours on Saturday, 5/9 (1-5pm) and will close for the semester at 5pm on Wednesday, 5/13. Drop-ins available Sun (5/10) – Tue (5/12) from 4-9pm and Wednesday (5/13) from 1-5pm. See full schedule on our Locations and Hours page linked above.

The Writers Workshop provides free support to all writers in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus community across all forms of academic and professional writing, at any stage of the writing process. We offer writing consultations by appointment and drop-in, where we brainstorm and provide feedback on essays, research papers, personal statements, ICT application essays, resumes, cover letters, theses and dissertations, manuscripts for publication, abstracts, digital compositions, and anything between and beyond. We also host writing groups and writing-related presentations: Check out our Events calendar to learn more!

We offer a variety of consultation types to meet you where you are:

  • In-Person Appointments, where you’ll reserve a 50-minute appointment at one of our locations in the Main Library, Grainger Library, or MCB Learning Center.
  • Video Call Appointments, where you’ll reserve a 50-minute appointment to meet with a consultant in real-time via videoconferencing.
  • Written Feedback Appointments (WFA), where you’ll reserve an appointment, upload your document(s), complete a detailed appointment form, and receive written feedback at the end of your appointment time. There is no live interfacing with the consultant in this format.
  • Drop-In Consultations, where you’ll meet with a consultant in a 15-30 minute, first-come, first-served session. These are located via Zoom, the Main Library, or the Lisnek LAS Hub during specific hours of the day. **These are not available during the summer.

We are committed to providing accessible services. To request accommodations, please contact Dr. Carolyn Wisniewski at wow@illinois.edu or call 217-333-8796.
