Reserving Satellite Appointments

The Writers Workshop offers in-person and video call consultations at our main location in the Main Library and at satellite locations across campus. Under each location below, you’ll find directions, hours, and space features. You can login to our scheduling platform to view open appointments at each location. Once you’ve selected a location, you can navigate between locations using the Schedule menu – see images below for where to find that menu on mobile and desktop.

Main Library, Room 100b

Our main location is room 100b Main Library. We’re located on the First Floor, and you’ll enter through the Orange Room (room 100). The space is accessible by both stairs and an elevator, and you can enter from the central hallway (we’re nearest the East Entrance, pictured here, which is across from the old Undergraduate Library). You can find more information on the Main Library ADA Accessibility Map. Feel free to ask at the Info Desk if you need assistance locating us or watch the video below!
Our Main Library location contains a range of seating options, including rolling chairs, round tables, height-adjustable rectangular tables, and cubicles for quieter conversations. We have two desktop computers. You are welcome to bring your own device. The lighting in the space is mostly florescent, although it does have windows. The room has high ceilings and so the level of noise can vary depending on the number consultations taking place. Writers can also request to find a quiet study room or to move into the Orange Room, as long as space is available.
You can reserve an appointment through our scheduling system. When you arrive for an in-person appointment, please check in at the Writers Workshop at the Orange Room service desk.
Appointment Hours (Sp26):
- Sunday, 2:00 – 9:00pm
- Monday & Wednesday, 12:00pm – 9:00pm
- Tuesday & Thursday, 1:00pm – 9:00pm
- Friday, 10:00am – 4:00pm
If no appointments are available or if you just have a quick question or short document, stop by our drop-in hours! Drop-in hours are run on a first-come, first-served basis. These are offered in-person at the Main Library (room 100b) or via Zoom from 4-9pm on Sun-Thu. You can now stop by the LAS Hub for drop-ins midweek during the midafternoon. Read more about the LAS Hub below!
Drop-in Hours:
- Sunday – Thursday, 4:00 – 9:00pm
LAS Hub

The Writers Workshop offers drop-in consultations at the Paul M. Lisnek LAS Hub. The Hub is through the atrium on the first floor of Lincoln Hall. Look for the big “LAS Hub” banner to the right of the atrium and follow the hall down to the large open seating area. Ask for the Writers Workshop consultant or look for our table. Drop-in hours are run on a first-come, first-served basis. Please arrive no later than 20 minutes before we close.
LAS Hub Hours (Sp26):
- Tuesday, 11:00am – 2:00pm
- Wednesday, 11:00am – 2:00pm
- Thursday, 11:00am – 2:00pm
Molecular and Cellular Biology Learning Center, Room 108

We offer consultations in one of the study rooms in Burrill Hall (Room 108) within the Molecular and Cellular Biology Learning Center (Room 101, Burrill Hall). This location can be accessed via the southwest entrance of Burrill Hall (via ramp or stairs). After entering the building on the first floor, turn left to get to the MCB Learning Center (Room 101). Turn right to head towards the stairs/elevator. Take this down one level and Room 108 will be the first door on the far hallway. Feel free to ask the MCB Learning Center reception desk for directions –
especially if it’s your first visit! You can find more information on the Burrill Hall ADA Accessibility Map.

Our location in the MCB Learning Center is a private study room that is small but comfortable when occupied by only two people. This room is a great option for those who prefer an in-person appointment but want a quieter space. There are no windows in this room. We usually keep the door open during consultations. There are low visual distractions in this room, with little to no color, art, or signage. There is also a monitor hookup for displaying data or presentations.
Please note: The MCB Learning Center Writers Workshop satellite is intended for writers in the sciences. Writers from other backgrounds may use the site, but priority is given to work from scientific disciplines.
Molecular and Cellular Biology Learning Center Satellite Hours (Sp26):
- Pre Spring Break: Monday, 6:00pm-9:00pm and Tuesday, 6:00-8:00pm (remote sessions)
- Post Spring Break: Tuesday, 4:00-6:00pm and Wednesday, 3:00-6:00pm (in-person and remote sessions)
Grainger Library, Room 402

Located on the fourth floor and northwest side of the Grainger Engineering Library, Room 402, our Grainger satellite is convenient for writers on the north end of campus. This is a group study room and is ideal for group consultations and students who would prefer to work in a quieter setting.
While engineering students often visit this location, with its proximity to the Center for Academic Resources in Engineering (CARE), we also welcome writers from other fields to schedule a consultation in this location. This space includes a large table, multiple rolling chairs, and a monitor hookup. There are no windows in this room and low visual distractions, with little to no color, art, or signage. There is often low-level noise coming from the adjacent study area, but it is usually not very loud. You can find more information on the Grainger Library ADA Accessibility Map.
Grainger Satellite Hours (F25):
- Tuesday, 5:00 – 8:00pm
- Wednesday, 6:00 – 9:00pm
- Thursday, 4:00 – 7:00pm
